Discipleship Formation

Spiritual growth at St. John’s occurs when "facts" that we learn about God and his love for us move from our heads to our hearts. Discipleship Formation includes Christian Education courses and programs that strengthens our commitment to and deepens our discipleship of Jesus Christ.  These include Sunday School, Adult Formation, Young Adult Programs, Confirmation, and a variety of Bible studies..

Cursillo

Cursillo is a movement within the Episcopal Church whose purpose is to help those in the church understand their individual callings to be Christian leaders.

This leadership may be exercised in work situations, in the family and social life, in leisure activities, as well as within the Church environment (more information can be found at the Upper South Carolina Diocesan Cursillo web site).  Our members have the opportunity to participate in Cursillo weekends, both as candidates and as staff members. If you are interested in such an opportunity for spiritual growth into service, speak with the Rector who is involved with the Cursillo movement and can share his personal experience in enthusiastic Christianity.

Adult Inquirer's Classes

St. Johns’s welcomes people from a wide variety of religious backgrounds, including folks who have never participated in any religious activity. This diversity is a stimulating part of life at St. John’s, but naturally there are questions from potential members and visitors about the actual beliefs and practices of the Episcopal church in general and St. John’s in particular.

The inquirers’ class offers a forum for the exploration of these questions, whether in preparation for membership, or simply a deepening understanding of one’s relationship with Jesus Christ  and their journey in the heart of God.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) is the traditional organization of women within the Episcopal church.  St. John's is blessed to have three active ECW chapters.  The chapters meet monthy and actively support many ministries that bring the love of God to our community and the people of St. John's. St. John's United Thank Offering, the annual financial gift of the ECW, consistently is among the largest offerings in the diocese. Their fellowship is crucial to life at St. John’s.
