MINISTRY

OVERVIEW

TEAM LEADER

Worship

Christian worship is a central part of our life together in the Body of Christ.  In our worship we reflect back to God our gratitude for the great love he has show us in redeeming us through Jesus Christ our Lord.  The Worship Ministry assists the Rector in establishing objectives and programs for worship and music for Sunday liturgies, Feast Days, children’s worship, and special events.

Discipleship Formation

Spiritual growth at St. John’s occurs when "facts" that we learn about God and his love for us move from our heads to our hearts. The Discipleship Formation Ministry develops programs that deepens our discipleship of Jesus Christ - Sunday School, Adult Formation, Young Adult Programs, Confirmation, Bible studies and other areas suggested by the Rector. Community Life

As we journey together into the heart of God, we welcome the support, encouragement and guidance of every member of our parish family.  The Parish Community Life ministry strengthens our Christian community by Identifying and implementing activities that promote fellowship among our Parish members.  This ministry is also responsible for welcoming and integrating new members into the life of St. John's, providing for Sunday fellowship following our worship services, fellowship dinners, and maintaining the parish network.

Evangelism

Evangelism at St. John's is sharing the Good News of our reconciliation with God in person to person witness.  It is in telling our own story of the love that we have received from God and the joy of our relationship with Jesus Christ that we fulfill our Lord's commandment to make disciples of all nations.

Mission Outreach

One of the most active of St. John’s ministries, the Mission and Outreach Minisry extends the loving hands and hearts of St. John’s into Winsboro and the surrounding communities, as well as to the furthest corners of the world. Locally we support many other caring organizations, both with financial support and with volunteer workers. This ministry identifies and implements Parish outreach ministries; propose to the Vestry the distribution of funds to these ministries; and serve as a liaison to local relief organizations.

Property and Grounds

Parish buildings and equipment worth over a million dollars requires maintenance and repairs. The Property and Grounds Ministry, led by the Junior Warden, is the oversight committee for these concerns.  While some members have contracting or engineering backgrounds, the most important qualification seems to be an infinite capacity to respond to issues which range from the catastrophic to the trivial. These faithful members donate their time, labor, and expertise to keep the church intact and comfortable—a major contribution to the church's larger mission.

Garden Guild

With the development of our parish garden, St. John’s quickly realized the need for volunteers gifted in the choice and maintenance of the flowers and plants which beautify the space. The Garden Guild is a dedicated group of experienced gardeners who donate their time and expertise to keep the garden the place of serenity and hope which it was designed to be. They bring a constant reminder of the springtime of Easter to all who visit this sacred space.

Communication

Increasingly, communication is dependent on traditional print media, including news media, service bulletins, the newsletter, and various mailings, and the new media, the internet, this website, e-mail. These dedicated servants of the community offer their expertise to help design and produce the various publications and information sources for St. John’s. Jim Crouch

Stewardship

The Stewardship Ministry is responsible for designing and implementing the annual funds drive for the operating budget of St. John's. This ministry analyzes the church's financial needs and makes them clear to the members, whose tithes and contributions are the primary source of income for the church. While we are noted for our low-key approach to fund-raising, the success of our programs and services to the community depends on the dedication of this ministry.

Finance

In an organization there are many chances to contribute to the ongoing efforts to balance the spiritual needs of the congregation with the financial realities of parish operations.  The rector, wardens, treasurer, and vestry are always open to advice and expertise from the many experienced and talented members of the congregation. Strategic Planning

Charged with developing a long-range vision for St. John's, this Ministry welcomes membership, input, and advice from all elements of the congregation.  This ministry considers how best to fulfill our mission as a member of Christ's Body by serving our members, our community, and our rapidly changing world.  This Ministry serves to keep us focused on the need to look beyond ourselves today and ask "What Would Jesus Have Us Do...Tomorrow?"

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) is the traditional organization of women within the Episcopal church.  St. John's is blessed to have three active ECW chapters.  The chapters meet monthy and actively support many ministries that bring the love of God to our community and the people of St. John's. St. John's United Thank Offering, the annual financial gift of the ECW, consistently is among the largest offerings in the diocese. Their fellowship is crucial to life at St. John’s.
