Mission & Outreach Ministry                                           Team Leader: Leann Smith

One of the most active of St. John’s ministries, the Mission and Outreach Minisry extends the loving hands and hearts of St. John’s into Winsboro and the surrounding communities, as well as to the furthest corners of the world. Locally we support many other caring organizations, both with financial support and with volunteer workers such as:

January            

  • Souper Bowl to benefit Fairfield Community Food Bank

Jan-Feb            

  • Knit or Crochet hats and scarves for York Place

February          

  • Card fronts to St. Judes Childrens Ranch
  • Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper--proceeds to Food Bank

March               

  • Annual cleaning of church and parish hail
  • United Thank Offering for Diocesan missions

April-Sept.        

  • Food drive for Fairfield Community Food Bank

May                  

  • Host annual tea for Still Hopes

July                  

  • Help feed Salkahatchee workers

August-Sept.    

  • Collect school supplies, socks and underwear for York Place

August-Oct.      

  • Collect for and prepare boxes for Operation Christmas Child

October            

  • United Thank Offering for Diocesan missions

Sept.-Nov.        

  • Collect clothing and household items for Tamassee DAR School

December        

  • DSS Group Home Christmas gifts
  • Contribute to Christmas party at Bryan Psychiatric Hospital Adopt 2 or 3 families
 

All Year:

  • Monthly greeting cards to parishoners homebound or in nursing homes
  • DSS home residents’ birthdays
  • Food from parish events and paper products to Good Samaritan House
  • Collect old eyeglasses and hearing aids for the Lions Club
  • Collect scarves, balicaps, hats, sunglasses,blue pens & teaspoons for Haiti
  • Knit and crochet sweaters for Guideposts Knit For Kids Project
  • Collect tote bags and small clothing for Columbia’s homeless
  • Collect pill bottles for mission trips and vets
  • Knit and crochet lap robes for Children’s Hospital, nursing homes, hospice and senior day care centers
  • Maintain EYC garden and assist Vestry with yard maintenance
  • Collect for and prepare DOP kits for Sistercare and homeless
  • Contribute to Seminarian Book Fund
  • Contribute to Bena Dial Scholarship Fund
  • Contribute to National Cathedral Association
  • Contribute to Bishop’s Discretionary Fund
  • Contribute to Rector’s Discretionary Fund
  • Contribute to ECW World, National, Diocesan & Community Missions
  • Adopt and assist local families in need
  • Host receptions as needed
  • Assist in maintenance of church, parish hall and rectory
  • Donate to CornerStone thrift store
